the Innkeeper

14-07-2004 post: Jan

Who want to do nothing, becomes an innkeeper?

When Egemund took over the enterprise of his father, one thing was very clear to him: This can't continue anymore...
The old gentleman was associated with the wrong people and had, beside robber's knight celebrations, also another thief's association. When examining the inheritance, he recognized, that many crimes of which he had heard off, was commited by his own father!

When Egemund had learned that, he made very clear to himself to immediately sell the criminal possession of his father. The first step into a respectable career was then the establishment of an economically sound business. After one year, the new building was built, the criminal artifacts of the father sold and the profit was donated to the church. Egemund wanted to put together his own life and to start over, so his children should look back, once again, with pride.

Egemund took the old horse trucks and sent these to the market to buy a raw materials.
"I am to pick up which weapons, my godfather", ask the driver of the truck.
"No weapons", answered Egemund, "rye and barley, we manage a pub! And do not call me godfather!"

The truck driver went on his way and grinned: "Of course, MASTER", he stressed and winked at Egemund.

The remnants of the father had to be shaken off for sure, but nothing will help more than a hard work, which will, with the time, move everything forward. Egemund, now occupied with his first apprentices in the new pub, engaged himself to have everything ready for the first guests to came. Unfortunately, the menu selection was not yet particularly rich, but that should change in the future. In the afternoon, when the trucks come back from the market and the workers began with the production of a beer and meals to be prepared for the guests on the next day, he finely feel relaxed.

After couple of years, the life had normalized itself. The people no longer look at Egemund with suspicion and the town guards did stop watching the inn, also they had given up searching the trucks.

The business ran well in the meantime. The apprentices had picked up more experience and his own abilities went up as well. Egemund also didn't sit still, he had visited old breweries and learned a lot from it. His workroom was now decorated with plenty new master documents. He earned to be a head in his own enterprise. Since the last years were very successful, he got also the badly needed money.
One year later he stood proudly in front of his, now expanded, hotel. He just initiate a new apprentice, who his workers should support and help to grow and to gain more experience. In the new building was more room and the workers will be starting the production of a new beer, of which he had learn on his travels. Egemund had heard grumbling lately and repeatedly among the guests, about quality of the served beer . They were obviously wrong about the timeless diluted beer...

But that should now change. Egemund showed his workers the technique for a new beer to take a place. He had drunk this strong beer on a training course in Kullembach. (Next day he had a hard time to remember who he was). He put a lot of effort to get his hands on the formula...
He called his new brand "Fahnenbraeu". The procedure he had, will bring  Prague to a small city.

Now he went to the opening of the new hotel. Many guests were to be taken to the new room presented for an inspection. They were enthusiastically excited from the extensions, but  looked however somewhat bored, when there was again only a weak beer to be served. A little later, one worker appeared and whispered to the Egemund ear, that the first barrels were filled up, so now the new beer can take over.

Egemund clap his hands, as a signal to give a speech. The guests looked at themselves again bored, because they had expected and feared that. But Egemund did wait for this a long time and didn't care. Finally he had managed that, on this day. He told the crowd about his endless journeys, the countless beverages he had to taste from the unheard lands. When hardly anybody listened, he unleashed the cat from the bag: "...and I look forward to present the new specialties and invite all of you to be the first one's allowed to drink it! From today on, they will be served in this house!"
It broke out an enormous rejoicing, when the whole personnel with trays full of strong beer and "Fahnenbraeu" came into the guest room. Egemunds name was praised over and over again and he blushed as the evening went on and more guests was giving him a pat on his shoulder... It was a very long night, the truck drivers did work overtime, each of them hardly made the trip home on their own legs...

The news of the new miracle beer had spread fast around and the favorable reception of it was better then expected. Some of those, which were carried home on the first evening, returned again to the teensy weensy beer. The strong drinkers called them from now on "the piss beer drunkards", but usually only behind their backs...

Egemund worked in the next years further on his training. He acquired title after title and then he was finally appointed as the patron. The highest honor of his guild. His house was fully developed and all the profits from the new brands could be spend on an expansion of his business. Besides of all of this, he had tried some new formulas out and had installed an "Alchemist's distillery". With the new distillery came new brand of products and his inn has became famous for centuries to come...

Egemund had reached the sky now, what he ever wished for, he accomplished. He wanted himself to retire and hand over the business to his son, when he met with a good-dressed buyer from another city. They talked about all kinds of things and then the guy mentioned the enormous sums the other cities will pay for the benefit to have such a fine products, just the watery beer was served there...

Egemund thought about this evening for a long time , and finally he began new training as a merchant, with the goal to make his products available in other cities......

... that is another story nevertheless!

Notes to table I:

One receives so-called of standard prices (in the table EK) and times, if one clicks in the transportation menu on a commodity (right) and the mouse button keeps pressed. The standard prices are probably an average prices, around which the market price moves. The standard time for your product seem to refer to the worker as an apprentice in a minimum developed enterprise. The effectiveness can be thus substantially higher, however conditions should remain approximately alike... also in fully developed enterprises

Putting one and notes to table II:

1. Stue/Tag: Expecting production of this commodity with the worker as an apprentice in a normal enterprise.
2. Kos/Stue: Raw material costs from tab I + costs apprentice/day/Stue/Tag
3. N-price: Normal selling price (determines with right mouse button). So this kind should be primary at the native market.
4. Gew/Stue: Piece of profit thus n-price - Kos/Stue...
5. Gew/Tag: Gew/Stue x Stue/Tag, thus how much profit can make one worker/day with this product under normal conditions...
6. FP/S: Piece of faraway market price. I determined this price manually as a remote dealer. I have a price gewaehlz, which one can obtain on the average approx. every 3 years. The extreme prices (century prices) are appropriate for still about 20% more highly. For the goods with one (-) I never received an offer in the remote trade in my career!
7. FG/T: Remote operating profit/day, like Gew/Tag only in the remote trade
